The Customer
PEDALL is a non-profit organisation that aims to make cycling accessible to everyone. Based in the New Forest, they boast one of the most diverse fleets of specialist cycles in the country, catering to a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
They needed a secure outside storage area for the cycles that was not only wind and watertight but also blended in with the environment
The Build
The build was a 40ft standard container transformed into a highly adaptable and functional space, designed specifically to meet Pedall’s needs. The container’s exterior was cladded, seamlessly blending in with its surroundings while also providing an extra layer or protection and insulation. To ensure convenient accessibility, a personnel door was installed at one end, accompanied by double personnel doors on the side, which provided ample space to manoeuvre their bikes.
Inside, we created a comfortable and well-equipped environment. The container was ply lined and equipped with ceiling lights and wall-mounted heaters, guaranteeing comfortable usage throughout the year. Moreover, we incorporated generous racking at one end to optimise storage capacity for their valuable resources.
To complete the conversion, we arranged for a pitched roof to be installed on-site. This addition not only adds an aesthetically pleasing touch but also offers enhanced protection against the elements, further enhancing the functionality and appeal of the space.
The Outcome
This project is a fantastic example of what is possible with a shipping container. The external cladding covers the industrial look and makes it more suitable for a forest environment. We were able to provide a wide entrance and exit specifically to match where they wanted to place the unit. Now they have a secure storage area that can be accessed and easily maintained all year round.
